Pavlos Avramidis

Pavlos Avramidis is Associate Professor of Sedimentology at the Department of Geology, University of Patras since 2014. His research focuses on Sedimentology of Aquatic Systems, particularly on coastal ecosystems (lagoons, deltas, bays). He was a graduate (PhD) and postdoctoral scholar of the Greek State Scholarship Foundation (IKY) in the subject of Energy Mineral Resources and Geology – Oceanography respectively. Since 1998 he studied more than 30 large public works projects, as a geotechnical consultant on subjects of geotechnical engineering, geology, hydrogeology and environmental sedimentology. From 2008 till 2014 he was Assistant Professor of Geology of Aquatic Systems at the Technological Educational Institute of Western Greece. He has large experience in performing deep spot drilling and geotechnical design – instrumental monitoring as well as coastal – environmental sedimentology and geochemistry. His research also focuses on palaeonvironmental reconstruction based on sedimentary analyses, radiocarbon dating and faunal assemblages. He teaches the following courses for under graduate students: (a) Sedimentology, (b) Environmental Sedimentology and (c) Geological Mapping and MSc course Geology of Aquatic Systems. He has participated as principal researcher in 15 national research programs of the University of Patras and is currently scientific coordinator on eight (8) research programs implemented by the Research Committee of the University of Patras. He has participated in a variety of projects concerning protected areas of the NATURA 2000 network in Greece and aquaculture impacts to the environment.

As a researcher he has 60 publications in peer reviewed scientific journals and more than 50 publications in national and international congresses.

Alexis Ramfos

Professor Alexis Ramfos is a marine biologist specialising in zooplankton ecology in coastal and offshore waters of eastern Mediterranean. He is an Associate Professor of Marine Biology in the Dpt. Of Animal Production, Fisheries and Aquaculture of the University of Patras. He has twenty years of experience in field sampling, analysis, and evaluation of biological and hydrological factors. He has organised and participated in a variety of projects concerning the environmental impact assessment (EIS) of aquaculture, the study of marine protected areas and habitats of the NATURA 2000 network in Greece as well as the study of sensitive habitats and species in all kinds of aquatic environments (offshore, coastal, transitional and inland).
Alexis currently is Head of sampling design and field sampling and responsible for the evaluation and mapping of sensitive habitats as well as the organisation and coordination of sampling activities.

Sarah Faulwetter

Dr Sarah Faulwetter is a marine benthic ecologist and biodiversity informatician. She has a dual background in data management and benthic ecology and taxonomy and has been working in the field for over 15 years, being proficient in all aspects of benthic monitoring and research: designing sampling campaigns, performing field work, processing samples in the laboratory, managing the data and statistically processing the results. Having identified specimens from thousands of samples she is very experienced with benthic macrofauna. She is an expert in polychaete taxonomy and has described new species from the Mediterranean Sea.

Sarah currently is Head of Benthic Analyses and responsible for the analysis of benthic samples in the laboratory as well as the calculation of biotic indices and statistical analyses.

Olga Katsani

Olga holds a B.Sc in Aquaculture and Fisheries Management and a Master degree in Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture where she studied Macrozoobenthic communities of soft substrates in Amvrakikos Gulf. She has many years of experience in sampling plankton, water and benthos sampling in lagoons and marine environments and knowledge of fishing and ichthyological data mainly in lakes. She has participated in many programs related to the analysis of zoobenthos.

Her responsibility in the laboratory is to process benthic samples (sorting and benthic analysis of all taxonomic groups), as well as assisting in field work.

Marinos Alexandridis

Marinos Alexandridis is a graduate of the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries Management and a Master degree in Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture where he studied the Evolution of the biocommunities of mussels (Mytilus sp.) during the warm season in the inter-coastal zone of the Amvrakikos Gulf. He has worked for six months in a fish farm. He also participated in the study and monitoring of benthic communities in Amvrakikos Gulf.

In the laboratory, he participates in the sampling campaigns and in processing benthic samples.

Athanasia-Violeta Ntzoumani

MSc Athanasia – Violeta Ntzoumani is a graduate of the Department of Biology at University of Patras. Her master degree is in Applied Ecology – Management of ecosystems and Biological resources where she studied the ecological patterns of the polychaete Ficopomatus enigmaticus in a greek coastal lagoon.

She participates in field work of sampling campaigns in coastal marine environments and processes the sorting and benthic analysis of samples in the laboratory.

Dionisis Christodoulopoulos

MSc Dionisis Christodoulopoulos has been interested in paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic study of shallow lacustrine archives of the central-northern Peloponnese, Greece during the Holocene period. His research comprises basic proxies such as geochemical analysis through XRF system, mineralogical analysis and standard sedimentological analysis (grain size, total organic/inorganic carbon, total nitrogen). Also, determination of nutrients and heavy metals in sedimentary matter is part of his total research field. He is experienced in field sampling and coring processing in lacustrine and wetland environments towards the western Greek region.

Dionisis currently is member of the research group, taking part at field sampling in coastal environments and performing all the aforementioned laboratory analyses.
